Lot #003

The MAC

Swimming in Circles

Oil, Spray Paint, House Paint, Galkyd, Epoxide Oil, Oleogel, and pencil on loose canvas

65 x 45 1/2 inches

2020

About the artist:

The Mac is a visual artist from California. His primary medium is painting, however he also works in sculpture, jewelry making, and mixed media work. The concept of universal interconnectivity and a deep appreciation for what he likes to call “kindergarten art” is very evident in his naive style.  Recently, he has epitomized those motifs through line variation, drips, dashes, faces, and childlike interpretations of animals, creatures, and various chosen items. A couple of his favorite artists - Dr. Seuss and Picasso - are influences that can be seen in his graphic and guileless painting forms. The Mac's work is deeply inspired by his love of childhood’s imaginative nature and his unwillingness to fully surrender to adulthood. He is a founding member of Shit Art Club and proudly represented by SAC as a member of our Monster Roster.

Artist note about this piece:

There is no right way up. So this piece’s orientation can go in any direction - vertical or horizontal.  Swimming in Circles is a metaphor on the repetitive cycles of life. As the fish continue to repetitively swim in a patter, they find consistently find themselves in deja vu.

About the Artist:

Lucy Eyears is an emerging artist from Santa Barbara, CA. Currently living and working in Los Angeles, Eyears is known for her abstract expression paintings. Referencing nature motifs and color, her work merges luminous shapes with subconscious brush strokes. Eyears builds up her surfaces with growing shapes, challenging negative space. Since receiving her BFA in Studio Art from University of Colorado, Eyears continues to work and exhibit throughout Los Angeles.

Lot #001

Loser Angeles

The Joke is On The Sun

Oil, Spray Paint, Acrylic, Oil Stick, Graphite on Canvas

60 x 72 inches

2020

Bidding on this item is closed - Thank you for your support!

 About The Artist:

Loser Angeles is a visual artist based in Los Angeles, CA. Using a variety of mediums, Loser Angeles’ work features common subjects and characters spontaneously throughout his works - which explore and emphasize what he describes as “the oddness of the ordinary.” Loser Angeles draws heavy influence from the absurd and non-sensical and creates work that challenges the viewer, or who he prefers to describe as “the participant” to abandon all recognition of meaning. His frequent use of bright and primary colors, bold graphics and text in his work are inspired by the primitive desire to see harmony in discord.

About The COVID-69 Auction:

SAC’s mission has been about supporting artists since day one. We dedicate ourselves to doing this by showcasing their work, connecting them with the community that we have built, and by doing anything else we think may be helpful. We have never aborted this mission, and we don't ever plan on doing so. It goes without saying that we are all overwhelmed by uncertainty during this unprecedented time, and despite the fact we are all in a similar boat, we are all sailing through different parts of this storm. Some of us are weathering it just fine, some of us are holding on tight as we get tossed around in the surf, and unfortunately some of us are taking on water and sinking fast.

Shit Art Club’s boat, the S.S. Bad Tim, has weathered more storms than Ahab and normally has Neptune by the short and curlies, but this one feels a little bit different. We recognize that this time is particularly difficult for artists, the art community as a whole (including us), and the community immediately surrounding SAC’s Headquarters in Downtown LA. We’d love nothing more than to be able to be partying with all of you and admiring @nickgrreen photographs that are supposed to be on our walls, but we can’t. We have been cooking up ideas that are a win win win for artists, our community, and SAC - and we think we just nailed a recipe that everyone is gonna like. Starting April 1st, we are kicking off our first auction ever, and we’re doing it online.

The COVID-69 AUCTION will feature one work by a featured artist per week. We recognize that finances may be tight, and for this reason, we are starting with an especially low reserve and leaving it up to the people to decide what they want to pay. A portion of Shit Art Club’s cut from each sale will be donated to Beauty 2 The Streetz, a non profit that works with the homeless on Skid Row in Los Angeles and provides them with the essentials that make them feel more human - showers, hearty meals, hygienic products and cosmetics. Please stay tuned for more  details to come, and PLEASE help us help our artists and our community.
